BENJAMIN DISRAELI, the illustrious British politician and writer, made the following statement in a speech delivered to the House of Communes:
“Success is achieved when there is persistence toward the goal for which we have been called.”
According to Disraeli and many other individuals who have achieved success, the secret to success lies in perseverance.
This statesman had to face many challenges in his life, particularly in his political career. He was of Jewish descent and not gifted with an easy command of language.
It is said that following a speech he gave in Parliament, the audience mocked him mercilessly. But the politician did not lose heart in the face of these jeers; on the contrary, recalling the famous Demosthenes who overcame his stutter, he addressed these words to the audience:
“People of England, you will have to listen to me.”
He could hardly be heard! Nevertheless, the future held for this man the honor of becoming a powerful orator and a famous politician, despite the four defeats he had to endure. He finally achieved victory in the year 1837, during the reign of Queen Victoria of England.
The brave, those who do not shy away from hard efforts, are the ones who will obtain victory.
